The Cape Town winter had been an awesome change of pace from the Asian summer. Even though most of the mornings started out with heavy fog and clouds, the sun always came through, and the temps ranged from 50F to 65F with no rain so far. I know this is not typical winter weather but its been gorgeous.
Continuing on following Rishav's advice, here's a quick summary of what we did on Days 4 & 5, some advice, fun facts, and some of favorite pictures.
- Hike Table Top Mountain (Kirstenbosch route through Skeleton Gorge)
- Eastern Food Bazaar
- Bo-Kaap walking around
- &Union Brewery
- Jurassic World
Advice if you visit
- The hike from Kirstenbosch via Skeleton Gorge to Table Top is quite a climb, don't underestimate it. It took us around four hours and three liters of water for two people. Definitely not safe if its been raining recently since you literally climb up a gorge. The markings aren't great, so after you get past the ladders, you need to climb up the stony gorge and you'll see more signs at the top. Overall a great and picturesque hike.
- Make sure to climb Table Top on a clear day. Low clouds would make the walk on top pretty dangerous. Also, the cable cars run based on weather. If you hike up, you definitely want the car on the way down to save your knees.
- Bree Street is a favorite among locals as well as tourists. &Union is a German biergarten pretty close to Bo-Kaap. Although the beer is pricey (R50 for 500ml) they do make killer ostrich kebabs. Long Street, a couple blocks, is filled with backpacker accommodations and known for its touristy nightlife.
Fun facts
- Ostrich tastes like leaner beef! We loved it and would definitely have it frequently if it was available in the USA.
- Eastern Food Bazaar means an Indian food court. Not the best food but great quantity for the price and pretty decent.
- Because of a random talkative taxi driver, we chose to the do the Skeleton Gorge hike instead of the Platteklip one. Great decision in the end because the Platteklip is straight up stairs.
- The Table Top Cable Car's floor rotates to minimize FOMO (fear of missing out)!
- After a month of travel, we needed a rest day and chose to watch Jurassic Park! Silly fun watch.

Those views look amazing with the cliffs overlooking the beach are so pretty! I was initially confused when you said you went to Jurrasic World until you said you watched Jurassic Park. I didn't realize the cities in South Africa looked this nice. I am learning so much about international travel from you guys!
