Singapore

Singapore is truly a foodie's heaven. There's so many types of cuisine (local, Malay, Chinese, Indian) available for super cheap under strict quality control regulations. Apart from the food, travel is uber convenient on the MRT and reasonably cheap. Since we only had ~36 hours here, all our activities revolved around food. Here's a quick summary of what we did, some advice, fun facts, and some of our favorite pictures.

Day 1

  • Overnight train from KL arrives in Singapore at 7:15am
  • Check into the Westin by 9:30am
  • Westin breakfast buffet
  • Westin infinity pool relaxation
  • Din Tai Fung at Marina Bay Link Mall for Lunch Dish #1
  • Lau Pa Sat(Hawker Center) for Lunch Dish #2
  • Hong Lim Market Food Centre(Hawker Center) for Lunch Dish #3
  • Chinatown walk around
  • Arab Street for Dinner Dish #1
  • Westin cocktail hour
  • Evening walk around the Marina Bay Sands
  • Makansutra Gluttons Bay(Hawker Center) for Dinner Dish #2

Day 2

  • Westin breakfast buffet
  • Hong Lim Market Food Centre for Lunch
  • Merlion viewpoint

Things to know if you visit

  • Hawker Centers are a concentration of food stalls that are very well maintained even though they might look "dirty" to you at first. The volume of customers served here is incredible. Tourists and locals eat here alike. Definitely the place to eat most of your meals in Singapore. They're also quite cheap :)
  • Try to stay near a MRT station since it makes transport much easier. You're not going to want to walk around too much outside because of the heat and humidity.
  • Walking the Marina Bay Walk path at night is ideal since the skyline is light up and the temperature is slightly better. There's also a great hawker center about halfway in the walk. There's also the Marina Bay Sands Mall in case you need to make a bathroom break.

Fun facts

  • We think there's a water show around 9:30pm at the Marina Bay Walkway. We heard some nice music and saw a horde of people leaving as we approached some water fountains.
  • All financial centers around the world are the same (NYC, Seoul, Singapore, etc.) Just men wearing suits, restaurants charging 25% more for everything, and damn SPG and Marriott hotels everywhere.
  • Singapore must be big into shipping or something cause the marina is filled with cargo ships and the docks with giant bright containers.

Summary of Pictures

Tucking in on the night train from KL! Still restless sleep.
DTF WTF I<3 - One of these is a restaurant
Yes, Mohit does look like an Asian size small here. This is the best pool we've been to :)
1st Hawker Center - Chicken and Rice, the rice was so flavorful and the chicken crazy moist

Inside Lau Pa Sat

A nice Chinese man conned us out of $3 to eat this, worth it.

Office crowd at Hong Lim - we followed the longest lines

Laksa from Famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa

I highly recommend being in 100% humidity, 90 degrees, and very hot curry soup! (No really this dish was great)

Got greedy at last lunch at Singapore and ordered duck rice too.

The luckiest office people ever with access to this food center, La Pau Sat.

Love the old and new part of cities

Went to Arab Street at Zam Zam, was a fool and didn't eat murtabak

Yes, you do need to see another giant mall in Asia.

When we accidentally signed up for a 1 hour walk of Mariana Bay

Gluttonsbay!

They do turn off the Merlion at certain point in the night

At Singapore you can come across a Ferrari tour and watch boys drool over 60 Ferraris

Oh lounge food

I need to email them this pic

Crazy amount of shipping happening
