Kaua'i Day 4

Day 4 in Kaua'i had a cloudy start and a few rain showers over the afternoon. Here's a quick a summary of the day, followed by a video and some of our favorite pics.
  • Wailua Falls
  • Opaekaa Falls
  • Kaua'i Path

Things to know if you visit

  • Kaua'i Path is a fantastic 8 mile path right on the ocean front. It's good for walking but even better for biking. The northern 4 miles are the most scenic parts of the path, which is convenient because the town of Kapaa falls roughly at the 4 mile marker. Try to go any day apart from a Saturday because the Kapaa Beach Shop is closed on Saturdays. They offer bike rentals for the day for about $10 and had great tripadvisor and yelp ratings. We were there on a Saturday and hence had to rent from Coconut Coasters Beach Bike which is just next door. They charged $20 for two hours per bike.
  • You can no longer hike down the Opaekaa Falls trail. Its a dangerous trail that's seen a few causalities, resulting in the indefinite closure of the trail. But if you plan your day right, you can rent a kayak/canoe at a near-by village (Kamokila Village), get down the river closer to the falls, and hike up to them. You can also swim in the pool under the falls. Kayak rentals are $35 per person for the whole day.
  • Safeway's fish section has some cool local catch if you want to cook while you're here.

Fun facts

  • Chickens are really fast and they can fly (which is totally unfair)... see the video for proof. Mohit would have sucked as a hunter.
  • There's a place in Kapaa with Kombucha on tap... ahem, Stephanie.
  • You can get Indian food on the island! For fear of terrible disappointment and since Malaysia is coming up we did not.

You can still go canoeing though! *At your own risk

Fate doesn't usually ride a bike for 7 miles but when she does it's by a rugged coastline

Cowabanga!!

Kauai Path at the end!

We need to make our own stone pile!

Safeway seafood choices, definitely of the Hawaiian variety
